Langer's: The World's Best Pastrami & The Original #19 Sandwich

Langer's, Langer's Deli or Langer's Delicatessen-Restaurant is a kosher-style delicatessen known for its all time favorite #19 Sandwich. Founded in June 1947 by Albert J. Langer, originally as a deli catering with just 12 seats located across the historic MacArthur Park.

Langer's pioneered "curb service" in 1990 although it is a sit-down restaurant. Customer can order ahead and then pick up their food from curbside. "Curb service" is now a popular option at most contemporary casual-dining restaurant systems.

The most popular #19 sandwich is made of the perfect cut of hand-sliced pastrami, coleslaw, Russian-style dressing and Swiss cheese on their famous double-baked rye bread, served with a single pickle spear on the side.

The world's best pastrami is manufactured by Burbank-based RC Provision. Once the pastrami arrives at Langer's, it is put into the steamer for several hours until its is tender. It has to be served at a specific temperature to preserve its juicy and delicious flavor.

The secret to Langer's beloved rye bread is double-baked, the bread is received from Fred's bakery (Jewish-style rye), then re-baked at 350 degrees for 30 minutes to give it the crispy crust it's famous for.

The portion is very generous here as you can see the layers of pastrami in between the sandwich. We ordered one and requested to be cut in half to be shared. Taste wise, the pastrami is very flavorsome and tender. We will definitely come back for this.
