I always try to discover local Chinese cuisine when traveling abroad, this time around we tried 2 types of Chinese cuisine - Shanghai & Cantonese.
- Joe's Shanghai - Chintatown. Multiple locations.
- Dim Sum Palace - West 46th Street. Multiple locations.
JOE'S SHANGHAI
We came to Joe's Shanghai for dinner since it's just 17 minutes walk from our hotel. Joe's Shanghai serves Shanghainese cuisine and they are famous for its signature dish - Xiao Long Bao (Soup Dumplings). They have 2 locations in New York:
- Chinatown - 46 Bowery
- Flushing - 136-21 37 Avenue, Flushing
Xiao Long Bao (Soup Dumplings)
Xiao Long Bao originated from Nanxiang, Shanghai in 1870s is my ultimate comfort food.
This Xiao Long Bao really lived up to its fame, they are made using a very thin dumpling skin, gelatinous stock and ground-pork filling then steamed in bamboo baskets, which causes the cubes to melt resulting in a piping hot soup inside.
DIM SUM PALACE
Dim Sum Palace served traditional Cantonese cuisine and made to order Dim Sum. They have 4 locations in New York:
- Hell's Kitchen - 334 West 46th Street (between 8th & 9th Ave)
- Midtown 56th - 28 West 56th Street (between 5th & 6th Ave)
- East Village - 59 2nd Ave (between 3rd & 4th Street)
- Midtown 33rd - 33 W 33rd Street (between 5th Ave & Broadway)
This is the branch at 334 WEST 46th Street:
