Le Reve was performed twice nightly Fridays through Tuesdays at the custom-built, 1,500-seat Wynn Theater. The acrobatic, aquatic spectacular was originally created by Franco Dragone, the former Cirque du Soleil directed who also created "O" at Bellagio & Celine Dion's "A New Day" at Caesars Palace.
Renowned for its dramatic theater-in-the-round setting so you will never get a bad seat in the house. The show is one of the most popular shows on the Strip that won the "Best Production Show in Las Vegas" for 9 consecutive years featured more than 90 performers and 250 cast and crew members.
Le Reve means "The Dream" in French. The story reveal itself slowly throughout the show that centers around The Dreamer, who journeys through a surreal world that leads her to choose between two lovers, Dark Passion and True Love.
More than 1 million gallons of water are used to fill up the aquatic pool with its deepest point at 27 feet. The breathtaking production of Le Reve also includes astounding special effects like fire, snow and rain.
Performers leap into the 26.6 foot-deep pool from a large tree-like structure, which weighs 4,700 pounds dry and 1,700 pounds when underwater.
BEHIND THE SCENE: Eleven divers assist artists and change elements during performances, while 70 hookah regulators help performers breathe as they travel underwater.
Synchronized swimmers practice "Tango" underwater during rehearsal. After each show, the 66 pairs of red shoes used are resoled and repainted. Some pairs have dozen of holes drilled in them to drain the water.
BEHIND THE SCENE: A diver technician supplies oxygen to synchronized swimmers performing "Tango". During the show, 22 underwater infrared cameras are used to monitor divers and performers.
Performers climb to heights of more than 80 feet above the water before diving straight down. Therefore every cast member must become SCUBA-certified before performing in the theater and performers get swim & strength tested every six months.
Canadian composer, Benoit Jutras whom is also the creative director for Cirque du Soleil composed the music for the show Le Reve. Three main characters, The Dreamer, Dark Passion and True Love was given their own melody where the themes are related to emotions that are used all over the show.
Tony-winning lighting designers Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer are the mastermind who brought in such dazzling lighting shows.
Phillip Wm. McKinley is the director of the show who overlooks nearly every aspect of the show. If you noticed, The Dreamer is the only one who wears a soft pink color costumer. Whenever Dark Passion or his minions appear, they're in red. True Love is white and is the only one who wears that silhouette.
Costume designer, Suzy Benzinger created these beautiful sparkly costumes for the performers but the costumes generally last only about six weeks because of the watery wear-and-tear. The famous Sphere act involves performers to turn inside and outside a crystal sphere suspended in air. The performers initially worn a simple costumers however it was changed to full bodysuits covered in rhinestones to make them look like the Aurora Borealis lights.
I'm glad to catch the last show because Le Reve has shuttered for good after more than 6,000 shows over the last 15 years due to the coronavirus pandemic.
