What is Japan Rail Pass
Japan Rail Pass (JR Pass) is owned by Japan Railways Groups (JR Group) valid for railways, buses and ferry boats. You can use the pass on the following transportation:
Train
  • Shinkansen, except Nozomi and Mizuho services
  • Nozomi (Regional passes only)
  • Limited express (Tokkyu)
  • Express (Kyuko)
  • Local (Futsu) including Rapid (Kaisoku) and Special Rapid (Tokubetsu-Kaisoku/ Shin-Kaisoku) service
Non-JR lines
  • Tokyo Monorail between Hamamatsucho and Haneda Airport
  • Aoimori Railways starting and ending at Hachinohe and Aomori only; and for journeys from these stations to Noheji and JR East Ominato Line.

There are two type of Pass for you to choose: Ordinary/ Green Car
The difference is Green Car(First Class Car) is like First Class with bigger seats.
1 week: Ordinary (29,110 yen) Green Car (38,880 yen)
2 weeks: Ordinary (46,390 yen) Green Car (62,950 yen)
3 weeks: Ordinary (59,350 yen) Green Car (81,870 yen)

Validity of the pass
Let's say if you start on July 1st 12 noon, the pass will expire at midnight on July 7th.

Where to buy the pass
How to collect the pass in Japan
  • You have to be present at the JR offices located in airports or main train stations to collect the pass
  • Must bring your passport along
  • Fill in an application form provided at the office
  • The date of exchange will be the first day of use specified on the pass
  • Start using the pass for unlimited rides
Benefit of the pass
Seat reservation can be made in advance at all JR Midori no Madoguchi ticket offices free of charge

Conditions of the pass
  • Cannot use the Automatic ticket gate
  • Must present your pass before and after the ride
