GYUKATSU MOTOMURA

I've heard so much about Gyukatsu Motomura before I visit Japan and it is always one of the MUST HAVE from my friends. I'm so glad to be able to try to real deal this time so Gyukatsu Motomura it is for our first meal in Japan.

You can find Gyukatsu Motomura in Shibuya and Shinjuku in Tokyo depending which area you are at. We went to the Shinjuku branch which is a short queue managed to get a seat in 10 minutes. Not bad at all!

Gyukatsu is a deep fried breaded beef cutlet served medium rare. All the gyukatsu is pink on the inside with 50% red centre. You will need to cook your meat on the grill to decide the level of doneness based on personal preference.

The set meal comes with rice, miso soup, pickles, cabbage, potato salad and sauces (Minced garlic & Sweet soy sauce). You are given 3 options for the portion: 100 gr/ 130 gr/ 260 gr.

I should have opted for 260 gr could easily finish eat as I don't usually finish a bowl of rice. It is GOOD!

I tried having my meat cooked in 3 ways:
  1. The original taste with no sauces. I only added a hint of wasabi once it is done.
  2. Dip the meat with minced garlic sauce before grilling it so it taste more fragrant.
  3. Dip the meat with sweet soy sauce to see how it tastes like.
My FAVOURITE would be No.2 - I LOVED how to meat taste extra fragrant with the slightly burnt garlic.

Established in 1978, Curry House Coco Ichibanya is a popular chain restaurant specializing in Japanese-style curry rice. I'm a fan of Coco Ichibanya overseas so I was wondering how does the original one tastes like.

The original version from Japan itself definitely taste better including the pickles. You can customized the rice portion, spice level and add additional toppings to create your favourite curry rice.

Who doesn't know Ichiran in Japan?

Started in 1960 as a humble ramen stall in 1960 from Fukuoka, now Ichiran is one of the most popular ramen restaurant in Japan. You will always see a long queue at the Shibuya branch mainly due to its prime location plus it is 24/7 available for you.

Order your food at the vending machine before you are seated. Pay in advance for your ramen and any additional toppings (egg, kikurage, sliced pork, seaweed). That is an indicator of the seats in the restaurant that shows if the seats are available.

You will not know who serve you behind the kitchen. You will be given a sheet to "Circle Your Preference" and it will be served accordingly to your liking. From Flavor strength, Richness, Garlic, Green onion, Sliced pork, Original Spicy Red sauce & Noodle texture.

If you are an Ichiran lover, Ichiran also sell Instant Package for you to bring home or you can give it to friends or family as souvenir.

IPPUDO

๐Ÿ•œ Mon - Fri: 11.00 -23.00/ Sat - Sun: 11.00 - 06.00
๐Ÿš‰ 4 mins walk
 ๐Ÿ“  25-3 Udagawacho, Shibuya City, Tokyo 150-0042

Ippudo also known as Hakata Ippudo, is another Hakata style Tonkotsu ramen founded by Kawaharo in 1985. You can easily find Ippudo around Japan just google the nearest location.

I personally prefer Ippudo than Ichiran however this is just personal preference.

We had Shiromaru Classic, Akamaru Modern and Gyoza for our dinner. The tonkotsu broth is cooked for over 18 hours and then left to 'mature' for 24 hours to extract the creamy fragrant broth. What differs Akamaru Modern is the additional Ippudo's secret "Umami Dama" miso paste and fragrant garlic oil that enhance the flavour of the soup.
